hopes, dreams, and life choices.
The bad news: only 7% of military pilots are women, which puts girls who are interested in aviation at an aggressive disadvantage.
The good news: exceptional resources exist that can help create a more inclusive, diverse, and gender-equitable future.
See below for details!
With more than 18,000 members in 120 countries, Women in Aviation International is the largest nonprofit organization in the world dedicated to increasing the number of women involved in all aspects of aviation and aerospace. The organization offers scholarship opportunities, youth education, mentorship connections, and more.
Membership is free for anyone 18 and under!
Girls in Aviation Days happen annually (typically every September). They are hosted by the local chapters of Women in Aviation International and offer interactive activities, mentorship, educational resources, etc.
Melaine "HALO" Valentin, an F-16 pilot, created the original Fly Like a Girl artwork, and it has become the unofficial logo for female military aviators. Posters, stickers, and patches are all available for purchase, and there are diverse options for skin color, eye color, and hair color.
